Update from the Building Commitee

As you know, we had our groundbreaking on Sunday, May 31st.  It was a beautiful and memorable day.  From the morning service, through the cookout, the games and the music by Echo Uganda to the Groundbreaking itself, we joyously celebrated God's provision to this point.  It was moving to have John Rabenstein and Barbara Kinnaman return and unite with Karen and Gil Dyrli in officially breaking the ground for our new church home, a beautiful reminder of our heritage.  We were joined by SCC alumni and by friends who have been involved in many aspects of bringing the vision of a building to the point of its physical beginning.  Throughout the day we had 160 adults and children celebrating with us.  We are grateful to all who contributed with planning, setup, music, food and cleanup for this momentous occasion.

Now we are a few more steps along the path of seeing significant change at our property!!  On Tuesday, June 15th, Storrs Community Church closed on a $510,000 mortgage with The Savings Institute!  The construction loan period lasts until December 2010 at which point the loan becomes a permanent mortgage with a 6.5% interest rate, adjusted every 5 years.

On June 5th the CT Department of Public Health issued us a Phase II permit, allowing us to proceed with submitting applications for health, zoning and building permits to the Town of Coventry. The two-week turnaround period from the town is almost up.

With the loan secured and the permits expected, we anticipate the start of the site work any day now. About a month is needed for the site work and the foundation.  In early August we hope to see the starts of the actual building going up.  Isn't this exciting?!  Praise God for his faithfulness!
