Alumni Letter Print E-mail

Dear “Alumni” of Storrs Community Church,

It is an enormous privilege for me to greet you, who once worshipped at Storrs Community Church, and update you on exciting developments in your church home near the University of Connecticut! Karen and I are the “last of the founding families” in the area that followed God’s leading to establish this work to be a witness in the cultural upheaval and social turmoil back in1969. His unflagging blessings have carried the ministry through almost four decades.

And somewhere in those years you worshipped with us too, and sat under the teaching of our beloved pastors the late Bill Kinnaman, Dennis Reiter, or our present pastor John Cuyler. You probably grew in your faith with fellow believers, and shared your joys and sorrows with us. In our case, our son Erik was the first baby in the nursery—cared for by our dear Betty Schultz—and sadly twelve years later, his was also the first funeral. The people of Storrs Community Church ministered to us beyond human understanding, and comforted us with God’s promises. And we’re certain that you have your own stories of what the church meant to you while you were here.

But now we are about to enter one of the most exciting eras in the history of our church, where we plan to follow God’s new leading to build our own church home on beautiful property that we bought years ago on Route 195. The countless numbers of vehicles that travel that road daily—from the Interstate to UConn or Eastern Connecticut State University—will drive right by our church. There isn’t a more visible location in the area!

Our present congregation has worked tirelessly for a long time to bring this dream to fruition, and we established a capital campaign called “Growing in Grace—Building to Serve.” We are of course committed to supporting the work with sacrificial giving, but since you are someone in our extended family for whom Storrs Community Church likely made a significant difference, we invite you to honor that memory and the believers with whom you worshipped, and share financially in the dream with us. This is an unparalleled opportunity for Storrs Community Church to minister more effectively than ever, and we ask you to help us build, by prayerfully considering sending gifts, pledges or memorial donations to the address below.

With appreciation and gratitude,
