The founding families dreamed of a church that was responsive to contemporary needs, committed to Christianity as revealed in the Scriptures, and focused on the essentials that unite all followers of Jesus, while encouraging diversity, intellectual inquiry and discourse. Their dream is very much alive today, as we continue our pursuit of authentic discipleship. We dream of a church… . . . Grounded in grace, where God’s unmerited favor in Christ shapes who we are and all we do. . . . Welcoming those who consider themselves, for whatever reason, beyond the reach of God’s loving embrace; to be a welcoming community for anyone who is sincerely interested in exploring the claims of Christ. . . . Where the love of God is expressed tangibly as we address physical, emotional or spiritual needs—locally or globally, in the church and down the street. . . . Doing life together, where everyone is connected with a small group of believers with whom they develop honest, trusting relationships with a commitment to rejoice together and mourn together. . . . Growing spiritually, where full devotion to God is a serious pursuit and each one of us is encouraged to take our next step toward maturity in Christ. . . . Where others wake up to the love of God in Christ and join us on the faith journey. We want to be a missional people who proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever he is not known, in Storrs and beyond. |
