Short Term Missions
Sending and Being Sent: Short-term Mission Trips
Every summer a group from SCC embarks on a mission trip, reflecting Christ’s love through hands-on service to others. In summer 2011, our team will be serving in the Dominican Republic.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. -- Acts 1:8

Short Term Missions is a great way to encounter, experience and see God at work. Following the pattern established in Acts 1:8, we are developing a 3-year Mission trip cycle that is local, regional, and global. Over the past several years teams have served in Haiti, Mississippi, Guatemala, and West Virginia. Currently a team of 28 are preparing to head to the Dominican Republic in August.

Vital Program Components Include:
Every undertaking is to be faith-focused and God-dependent, as well as open, accessible and sensitive to the unchurched. We will develop projects in which we, our friends and neighbors would like to participate.

Our time and resources will be used to aid and support established, ongoing projects rather than one-time events, so that our volunteer efforts are not short-lived.

While relief of hurts and hardship is an important element of Christian compassion, we will invest in projects that equip individuals and communities to care and provide for themselves. Where possible we want to teach people to “fish” rather than simply “give them a fish.”

Multi-generational projects and trips are a priority. We will provide opportunities for families and people of all ages to participate in serving locally, regionally and globally.

We place a high priority on face-to- face interaction. Our projects and trips will provide an opportunity to serve, interact with, and learn from our host-receivers.
